How to Lodge a Privacy Complaint

To lodge a complaint under PIPEDA

Before lodging a complaint with us, please consult our Guide to the Complaint Process. It provides useful information on what you can complain about under PIPEDA and what you can expect from our Office. You may also call 1-800-282-1376, toll-free, to speak to an Inquiries Officer about your concerns before lodging a complaint.

If you choose to lodge a complaint against a private sector organization with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, please use our complaint form. You will have to download the form, fill it out and mail it to:

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
112 Kent Street
Ottawa ON K1A 1H3

Since security cannot be ensured, we cannot accept complaints by e-mail.

You should know that this Office strongly encourages individuals to deal first with the organization before complaining to us. If you have not done so, you may be asked to try that first before we accept your complaint.

Organizations that are the subject of a complaint may wish to consult the Organizations’ Guide to Complaint Investigations under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act for guidance on how to handle an investigation by our Office.
