Court Applications under section 14 of PIPEDA

Under section 14 of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), a complainant or the Privacy Commissioner may, in certain circumstances, apply to the Federal Court for a hearing before the Federal Court of Canada in respect of any matter referred to in the Commissioner’s report and listed under section 14.

Considering that a section 14 application is a legal proceeding commenced in the Federal Court of Canada, our Office has prepared a document which is intended to guide complainants through the process of applying for such a hearing. You can access this document by clicking on the icon in the right margin.

For more information and for sample documents, please refer to the Federal Courts Rules, which can be found on the Department of Justice Canada website at http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/F-7/SOR-98-106/index.html.
