Legal information related to PIPEDA

Guidelines

Organizations that collect, use and/or disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities must comply with the provisions of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). As well, government institutions that collect personal information must do so in a way that respects the provisions of the Privacy Act. In order to provide guidance to organizations, and government institutions, our Office has prepared a number of guidelines. To date, our Office has issued guidelines for responding to privacy breaches, for methods of identifying and authenticating customers in ways that respect PIPEDA, for recording of customer telephone calls, for overt video surveillance in the private sector and for surveillance of public places by police and law enforcement authorities.

We invite you to view the OPC's guidelines which are located in the Resources section of this website.
