Privacy Priorities - page 43

41
We believe that all of our activities under the
rubric of this priority will help in our policy
discussions and contribute to the continuing
broad public debate about privacy and
genetic information.
Looking Ahead
Genetic science has already advanced at an
astonishing rate and we are beginning to see
the widespread use of genetic information
in a number of contexts that raise privacy
issues – insurance, employment and direct-
to-consumer genetic tests, for example.
It is clear that we are still in the very early
days of the use of genetic information. There
is a need to carefully consider the potential
privacy implications in order to develop
sound principles to help mitigate those risks
going forward.
