Commissioner’s annual report on public-sector privacy issues expected to be tabled in Parliament
OTTAWA – The Privacy Commissioner of Canada’s 2010-2011 Annual Report on the Privacy Act is expected to be tabled in Parliament on Thursday, November 17th, 2011 at approximately 10 a.m. ET.
The annual report includes summaries of two audits that sought to assess whether specific federal organizations complied with the requirements of the Privacy Act and related policies and regulations. One evaluated the stewardship of personal information by the federal authority in charge of airport security, and the other examined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s control and management of selected law-enforcement databases.
The annual report also presents numerous summaries of investigations into privacy complaints by Canadians, and outlines several Privacy Impact Assessments that federal departments and agencies submitted to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada for review during 2010-2011.
Following the tabling, the annual report and the two audits will be available to the media through the Parliamentary Press Gallery and on the Privacy Commissioner’s website at www.priv.gc.ca.
