International data protection authorities call for action to protect privacy in the information age

OTTAWA, September 25, 2013 – International data protection authorities meeting in Poland have endorsed several resolutions aimed at better protecting privacy in the face of new risks stemming from profiling, web tracking and digital technologies that are part of everyday life.

The 35th International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners is taking place this week in Warsaw, Poland.  The annual conference brings together data protection authorities from around the globe.

The resolutions endorsed by the participating authorities have been posted to the conference website.

The resolutions address issues such as the need to increase international enforcement cooperation, web tracking and privacy, data profiling and the crucial importance of digital education.
