Request records held by the OPC
If you wish to request information that is under the control of another Federal Government Institution, you must submit your request to their Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator.
If you are requesting personal information that is not your own, you must fill the form Authorization to act as a representative for a request for access to information and personal information under the Access to Information Act and attach it to your request for access to information. The authorization must be dated and signed by the person giving the consent.
You may submit your access request for information through the mail. You will be able to submit your online access request, via the access to information and privacy (ATIP) Online Request Service of the Treasury Board Secretariat, as soon as our office is listed.
Note: The Office of the Privacy Commissioner does not accept requests via e-mail or telephone. Please submit your requests by mail or, eventually, online, as indicated below.

The Government of Canada has launched a new service for submitting ATIP requests online.
This service will help you:
- search all 265 institutions of the Government of Canada
- find the most appropriate institution for your request
- view past ATIP requests

- your search may lead you to the institution that is best suited to respond to your request
Submit a request by mail
For all Access to Information Act requests made to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, you must complete the Access to Information Request Form or send a written request fully describing the information you are seeking and any relevant details necessary to help the OPC find it. You must mention that you are requesting the information pursuant to the Access to Information Act and you must include a $5 application fee.
You may send the application fee in the form of a cheque or money order made payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
