Privacy Commissioner of Canada addresses ATIP community during Data Privacy Week

On January 26, 2026, Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne participated in an Access to Information and Privacy communities meeting marking Data Privacy Week. In his address, the Commissioner highlighted the important role of privacy professionals in promoting a culture where data protection is prioritized as an enabler and strategic benefit.
Commissioner Dufresne provided an update on progress in advancing his strategic priorities. These are: maximizing the impact of his Office, addressing the privacy implications of technologies, including artificial intelligence, and championing children’s privacy.
He also discussed the importance of privacy by design and some of the tools that can support organizations in integrating privacy protections at the very outset of any new initiative or program.
