Privacy Commissioner of Canada addresses Senate committee on Bill S-209

Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne appeared today before the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs to discuss Bill S-209, An Act to restrict young persons’ online access to pornographic material.

In his remarks, Commissioner Dufresne said that he supports this Bill as a way to help protect young people online. He said that prioritizing privacy is a critical factor in ensuring that individuals are able to safely navigate the online world, which can also foster confidence in technologies, such as age assurance, and ensure that this Bill can achieve its beneficial goal.
