October 10, 2025 – Banff, AB
Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne took part this week in the annual meeting of Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Information and Privacy Commissioners and Ombuds, where participants reaffirmed the importance of collaboration to advance privacy protection in Canada.
The two-day meeting in Banff, hosted by Diane McLeod, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, provided an important forum to discuss key priorities, including children’s privacy.
The meeting brought together academics and legal experts to engage with commissioners and ombuds on issues with privacy implications such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the protection of online data.
During the meeting, there was a handover of the role of annual chair from Commissioner McLeod to Commissioner Dufresne and Caroline Maynard, Information Commissioner of Canada, who will co-chair the Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Information and Privacy Commissioners and Ombuds group for the coming year.
