February 2, 2026 – Ottawa, ON
Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne appeared today before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI) as part of its study of “Challenges Posed by Artificial Intelligence and its Regulation.”
Commissioner Dufresne said that privacy is an important and timely issue for Canada. He noted that as AI technologies continue to evolve rapidly and become increasingly integrated into personal and professional lives, modernization of Canada’s privacy laws would further enable Canadians and Canadian organizations to use and deploy these technologies with appropriate protections for personal data.
