Privacy Commissioner of Canada appears before Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics on Main Estimates

Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne appeared today before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI) to discuss his Office’s 2026-2027 Main Estimates.

He was accompanied by Marc Chénier, Deputy Commissioner and Senior Legal Counsel.

In his remarks, Commissioner Dufresne discussed the impact of a rapidly evolving technological environment and called for modernized federal privacy laws. He also mentioned that at this time of rapid, unprecedented change, prioritizing privacy must be a collective imperative.
