Completed 2025-2026 Contributions Program projects reveal insights related to personal information collection by smart devices

November 6, 2026 – Gatineau, Quebec

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has published the final summaries of projects funded under its 2025-2026 Contributions Program cycle.

The projects explored a wide range of topics related to the collection of personal information by smart devices, “FemTech” (digital technologies dedicated to female health), the privacy risks of health-related machine listening, and a privacy-protective approach to data analysis from connected vehicles.

The OPC Contributions Program funds independent privacy research initiatives that generate new ideas and approaches that can help organizations better safeguard personal data and Canadians make more informed decisions about how to protect their privacy. The Program was launched in 2004 to support arm’s-length, non-profit research on privacy, to further privacy policy development, and to promote the protection of personal information in Canada. Since then, it has allocated approximately $11 million to more than 190 projects.
