Collaborative Workplace Initiative Committee

Function: Information-sharing Body

Overview

  • The results of the survey and all-staff meetings identified the need for more collaborative spaces where teams can come into the office to work together on common projects and develop synergy.
  • The Office has embarked on a rapid transformation of its office space that takes into consideration some of the guiding principles of GCworkplace. A floor plan has been developed. We are still awaiting the approval of the legislative reform that will make a number of changes to the structure of the organization that will be providing the funding for this transformation. The Committee looks at the different components that must be taken into account during a fit-up project, such as technological aspects, information management, security and communication.
  • The Committee is composed of key partners from the various branches of the Corporate Management Sector and Communications Directorate. It has one representative per sector.
  • The Committee also looks at the logistics of the project and the steps to be taken, the well-being of employees throughout this change process as well as the development of procedures for working in a new unassigned work environment with collaborative areas.

Commissioner’s role

  • The Commissioner will receive updates from the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on the status of the project, plans and decision making.

Wellness Action Team

Leads:

Function: Recommending Body

Overview

  • The Mieux-être au travail / Wellness Act Team (MAT/WAT) was created in 2016 as the OPC worked to develop an approach to wellness in the workplace in line with the Federal Public Service Workplace Mental Health Strategy.
  • The Team’s core mandate is to promote mental health – or wellness – in the OPC workplace through:
    1. Advising and keeping OPC management informed on matters relevant to workplace wellness;
    2. Raising awareness among all employees on workplace wellness related issues; and
    3. Planning and organizing activities and events with the aim of encouraging workplace wellness.

Commissioner’s role

  • The MAT/WAT Champion briefs or consults the Commissioner as appropriate on MAT/WAT activities or proposals during regular bilateral meetings.
  • On an ad hoc basis, the MAT/WAT Champion brings information or decision items to the Executive Management Board (EMB) or the Executive Management Board Plus (EMB+), which are chaired by the Commissioner, for review.

Official Languages Promotion Team

Champions: Gregory Smolynec and François Cadieux

Function: Recommending Body

Overview

  • The role of the Official Languages Promotion Team is to promote and foster a culture within the OPC that is conducive to the implementation of the Official Languages Act (OLA), including Parts IV to VII of the Act.
  • To this end, the Team’s mandate is to:
    • Support the Official Languages Champion or Co-Champions in their duties;
    • Heighten the awareness of all staff (employees as well as senior management) regarding their duties and rights under the OLA; and
    • Plan and organize activities to promote linguistic duality and the use of both official languages in the workplace.
  • To the extent possible, Team members are drawn from all sectors and groups within the OPC. The Team meets at the request of the Co-Champions and according to the OPC’s organizational needs.

Commissioner’s role

  • The Team advises the Commissioner on the promotion of linguistic duality at the OPC. It also reports to the Commissioner and OPC’s senior management and keeps them informed of its activities.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Champion: Sue Lajoie

Function: Recommending Body

Overview

  • Under the governance of the Champion, the Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee was created as a forum for reflection and open discussion among representatives across the OPC about building equity, diversity and inclusion at the OPC and in the Public Service.
  • As stipulated in the Committee’s Terms of Reference, the Committee proposes actions and approaches in order to implement actions listed in the OPC’s Strategic EDI Action Plan which falls under the following three pillars:
    1. Communication and Engagement;
    2. Leadership and Accountability; and
    3. Recruitment, Development and Retention.

Commissioner’s role

  • The Committee, via the Champion/Chair and the Human Resources representative(s), with the support of members of the Committee, will report on its activities to the Executive Management Board (EMB), which the Commissioner chairs, at least twice per year.

Beyond 2020 Working Group

Champion: Brent Homan

Function: Information-sharing Body

Overview

  • The Beyond 2020 Working Group works to promote at the OPC the Beyond2020 and public service renewal initiative.
  • Beyond 2020 succeeded the 2013 Blueprint 2020, which proposed a new vision for the public service that is open, modern, high-performing and with a whole-of-government approach.
  • Beyond 2020, in turn, aims to develop a Public Service that is more agile, more inclusive and better equipped.
  • In Fiscal Year 2021-2022, the Group organized the 2nd edition of the OPC Dragons’ Den.
  • In Fiscal Year 2022-2023, the Group is organizing an Innovation Fair Series of presentations, where directorates and working groups will showcase their agile, inclusive and equipped initiatives.

Gender-based Analysis Plus Working Group

Champions:

Function: Recommending Body

Overview

  • The OPC’s Gender-based Analysis (GBA) Plus Working Group is responsible for helping to raise awareness of GBA Plus within the OPC, and for supporting its implementation across the organization.
  • Group members are consultative resources for OPC employees, who share knowledge about GBA Plus and support their direct colleagues in GBA Plus implementation.
  • The Group developed the OPC’s GBA Plus Framework and Action Plan, which guides the OPC’s GBA Plus activities and organizational work plan. The Framework is in line with guidance from Women and Gender Equality Canada.
