Summary

The project developed by Option consommateurs consists of producing short, humourous and educational videos with help from two Web influencers (YouTubers) in order to raise awareness among and provide guidance to Canadian youth about the issues of Internet privacy.

Two influencers, one English-speaking and one French-speaking, both approximately 18 years old, have been retained to represent the two main linguistic communities in Canada. The English-speaking influencer is a young Torontonian who has been active on social media for 6 years. Her YouTube channel has nearly 200,000 subscribers, and she has produced over 300 videos. The second influencer is from Quebec. He has been producing videos for over 4 years and has a community of 40,000 subscribers.

The content of the videos was developed by the Web influencers in collaboration with Option consommateurs. In an effort to better guide the influencers in their writing, the organization prepared a summary document, based on online resources made available to the public by the OPC, where key messages are identified.

In addition to videos, created by adolescents for adolescents, a microsite will be designed to give high school and college students advice so that they can better protect their online reputation. A communications plan was completed and will be distributed during the second year. To reach the target audience, an innovative campaign, focused on social media (Instagram and Facebook) will then be launched in order to promote the videos and related Web content.
