Privacy Commissioner of Canada appears before Parliamentary Committee on Bill C-22
May 26, 2026 – Ottawa, ON
Privacy Commissioner of Canada Philippe Dufresne appeared today before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU) to discuss Bill C-22, the Lawful Access Act, 2026.
In his remarks, Commissioner Dufresne noted that Bill C-22 improves on its predecessor, Bill C-2, with several notable changes reflecting feedback that the government received on that Bill, including changes consistent with written recommendations that the Commissioner made last November.
Commissioner Dufresne also highlighted some aspects of Bill C-22 that he believes warrant further amendments to strengthen and ensure privacy protections for Canadians.
