Apply for federal court hearing

If you filed a complaint with the OPC and you are not satisfied with the result, you may be able to apply to the Federal Court for a hearing under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) or the Privacy Act. This option is only available in specific circumstances.

Complaints against the federal government

Individuals may apply to the Federal Court for a hearing related to a refusal by a government institution to provide them with access to their personal information. This relates to personal information held by the government institution about which a complaint was made to the OPC.

Complaints against a business

In some cases, individuals can apply to the Federal Court for a hearing related to the complaint they made to the OPC about how a business handled their personal information.
