Are you passionate about technology, privacy and shaping the digital world? We want to hear from you!

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is launching a Youth Advisory Council — a space for young people to share their insights, experiences and ideas on the privacy challenges that matter the most to them. From social media to the rise of artificial intelligence, the privacy landscape is evolving fast. Your voice will play an important role in helping our office understand how these issues impact young people.

What you will do

  • Work with other young Canadians and the OPC to better understand and highlight the privacy risks and issues affecting youth
  • Advise the OPC on policies and projects that aim to protect and promote youth privacy
  • Collaborate with the OPC in designing impactful public education and outreach campaigns
  • Learn from experts in technology and privacy rights

Read the Youth Advisory Council’s terms of reference to learn more.

Why join

  • Make a real difference when it comes to issues like privacy and social media, online surveillance and deceptive design
  • Build skills in advocacy, leadership and digital literacy
  • Attend a training workshop, and gain access to privacy experts and networking opportunities

Who can apply

We are looking for passionate, thoughtful and diverse voices from across Canada.

When selecting members for the OPC Youth Advisory Council, we are aiming to create a diverse group that reflects the broad range of experiences and perspectives of young people across Canada. We are looking for applicants from different backgrounds, ages (13-17) and geographical regions.

We are also seeking candidates who can participate in Council-related activities over a 2-year period.

Ideal candidates will be comfortable sharing their thoughts and ideas in discussions, in the official language of your choice, with both peers and adults and are passionate about helping their communities.

You do not need to be an expert in privacy – just curious to learn more. We want to hear from you – join the conversation about privacy, technology and the digital world!

How to apply

Submit the Youth Advisory Council application form telling us a bit about you and why you want to be part of the Council. Applications are open until July 31, 2025.
